Bakerella Cake Pops...I found another fan!

I had another Halloween item I wanted to share. During Trunk or Treat, Teresa was passing out "pumpkins on a stick" to all the adults.  Everyone asked..."what are these", but when she handed me that little special treat, I new immediately I had a fellow Bakerella fan in my presence! I was so excited to have someone hand me a cake pop, let alone a Halloween cake pop made with spice cake!

Unless you've spent the time making cake pops, you have no real appreciation for how hard the job can be. You start out thinking, I can do this...NO problem. But then, you get 5 in and 10 in and you start realizing that maybe one batch is enough for now.  They might be to dry, they might be to mushy like mine, but to get the perfect cake pop takes practice!

My first attempt was the Red Velvet Cake Balls.  They seemed a little mushy to met, just a bit to wet, but I've since found out that you start with 1/2 to 3/4 of a container of frosting, rather then the entire tub.

My second attempt was the Oreo Truffle Balls. Now these were so good, we made them in both white and milk chocolate.

The best part of this story is the story behind Bakerella herself. She started out in 2007 with a small blog, documenting her sweet little treats, step by step. She learned as she went and shared her experiences along the way. She got her 'Big Break" when Martha Stewart  invited her to share her Cupcake Pops on her show. This is where I seen her first. After that, I followed her blog each month to see what she'd come up with next. It was amazing how quickly she expanded her work and became well known in the blogging world.

Now, jump forward to October 2010 and she just released her first book. As she said, if you would of told her 4 years ago she'd have a book, she'd think you were crazy. But here it is..and probably in every bookstore, including Barnes and Noble

Teresa was so excited, she picked it up the first week. That weekend when she found out I was a fan, she was nice enough to bring it over for me to check out. That's where she got the idea for her pumpkin pops.

So my advice for you; if you'd like to make a great impression give these cake balls or cake pops a try. Whenever I attend a work party with my husband, I'm always referred to as the one who sent those "little ball things" that everyone LOVES. They don't know exactly what they are, but they love them!

Don't feel like making cake pops, check out the site for other great recipes and ideas. This is the cake I've been wanting to make Doug for 2 years and just haven't done it yet! I mean, look at the photo, it's good enough to take a bite! Peanut Buttercup Cake

  2. It's super easy if you have a big, counter top mixer or large processor. I only have an average size food processor, so I have to do half batches and it gets messy!
